Criminal Justice Sub-Group

Chair – Carol Stephenson (Criminal Justice Co-ordinator - Torbay)
Administrator – Laura Wright (Partnership Administrator)
Frequency – Bi Monthly
Meeting Type – By invitation only.

The Criminal Justice Subgroup is instrumental in steering Criminal Justice activity across all disciplines, from arrest, sentence and beyond. With many guidelines from Central Government about implementing Drug Interventions Programmes, the members are able to ensure that we can deliver appropriate interventions that meet local needs as well as policy imperative activity. It is structured to ensure that all participating agencies are represented and able to contribute to the overall strategic development. We are focussed in the goal of sharing best practice and joined up thinking to achieve a robust and effective system to embrace people into treatment services and thus reduce crime.

Agencies and groups represented include Drug and Alcohol Services,Substance Misuse Team, Voluntary Sector, Police, Probation, Prisons, Court Personnel, Magistrates and invited consultants / speakers.

The group has a Terms of Reference describing why it meets and records or ‘minutes’ are kept summarising each meeting and any action that was agreed to be taken forward by the group

The meeting through consultation and discussion and self assessment informs the annual Treatment Plan which describes local priorities and need; what is going to be done as well as how the Substance Misuse Team's budget will be spent each year based on local priorities and need. This is supported by a Strategic Summary. The National Treatment Agency provides Quarterly progress reports which help the Substance Misuse Team and the subgroup review what is being done well and areas that need more development.
