Street Wardens

Street Wardens can be many different things to may different people as they adapt to the need of the local community. They provide a visible, semi- official presence on the streets and estates and work at the grassroots with the police and others to deter crime and tackle anti social behavior. This creates a greater feeling of security and confidence amongst residents.

Unlike Community Support Officers, Street Wardens do not have any police powers. Rather, they are meant to be the eyes and ears of the community, looking to improve the quality of life of an area and help it along the path to regeneration and promote opportunity.

As well as providing a link between local residents and key agencies such as the local authority and the police, wardens can also help with efforts to promote community safety and tackle environmental problems such as litter, graffiti, dog fouling and housing. They undertake project work and provide a more personal approach visiting residence in the community that needs their assistance.

Street Wardens are community builders, helping others to help themselves making their environment a better place to live in.
