TORRPAT

We Believe in a Community…
Where every colour is a good colour
Where members of every part of society are able to fulfil their potential
Where racism and religious hatred is unacceptable and counteracted
Where everyone is treated according to their needs and rights
Where racial and religious diversity is celebrated

What Is It?
ToRRPAT - Torbay Race & Religions Priority Action Team is a forum where local agencies (having statutory responsibilities under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998) and members of the black and minority ethnic and religious communities meet to discuss various issues.

Following the implementation of the 1998 Act the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry highlighted the need for genuine multi-agency partnerships and co-operation to combat racism and to bring together all sections of the community with this aim in mind.

When Was It Formed?
ToRRPAT was formed in March 1998, to ensure that the views and experiences of the local minority ethnic and religious communities were represented. Meetings are held approximately every six weeks to discuss the latest issues - the dates of the next meetings are:

  • 25th January 2006, 7.00pm to 9.00pm, Torbay Foyer
  • 8th March 2006, 7.00pm to 9.00pm, (venue to be confirmed)
  • 26th April 2006, 1.30pm -3.30pm, (venue to be confirmed)
  • 14th June 2006, 7.00pm - 9.00pm (venue to be confirmed)
  • 26th July 2006, 1.30pm - 3.30pm, (venue to be confirmed)
  • 6th September 2006, 7.00pm - 9.00pm, (venue to be confirmed)

Who Is Involved?
TORPAT is a local group with representatives from the Police, Torbay Council (including the Local Education Authority and Adult Services), Victim Support, Safer Communities Torbay, Riviera Housing Trust, the Probation Service, the Black and Asian population as well as various religious communities. We endeavour to embrace all ethnic and religious groups and organisations within Torbay.

How Can TORPAT Help Me?
If you are from an ethnic minority or religious group and have issues that you would like discussed or assistance with, TORPAT is the forum for you.

We aim to improve communication between local organisations and the community whilst improving community safety measures with a view to reducing racist and religious incidents.

Reporting crimes/incidents in confidence...
Dial 999 or 112 if it is an emergency and you require immediate assistance.

Dial 08452 777444 to report non-emergency crimes/incidents.

If you think the crime/incident was racially motivated please mention this when making the report.

We are in the process of introducing an on-line reporting facility whereby incidents can be reported by filling in a form placed on this web site. Again any such information will be dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
