Your Protection

Coming forward as a victim of a crime to report an offence takes courage.

Some victims hesitate to report crimes because they are worried about what will happen to them if they do. Some victims may be concerned that the person who has committed the crime against them will find out their personal details, such as their home address, and will use that information to intimidate or hurt them.

All victims and witnesses have legal rights, and there are laws in place to protect them. To find out more about your rights visit the legal rights section of the direct gov website.

The national charity Victim Support opens in a new window also has information on its website about what to do if you have reported a crime and are being threatened or intimidated.
