Intergenerational Project - Safe Night

For similar reasons as the Garden Tidy, the Safe Night programme is designed to give greater confidence in locations typically associated with Anti-Social Behaviour. Common crime statistics suggest that at present, the fear of crime well out weighs the reality of becoming a victim of crime.

In order to help support the notion that the fear of crime is unjust to the actual risk, Safer Communities has designed a project that would encourage young and old residents of notoriously ‘high-crime’ locations to gather and walk together through the neighbourhood. Hele in Torquay has been highlighted as the initial location suitable for this project. It is hoped that is proven to be successful, the project will move onto Foxhole in Paignton.

By hosting this project during the evening, Safer Communities and the local residents will be directly challenging the fears associated with the locations. It is also hoped that as all residents participating in each location are local there will be an opportunity to converse and discuss any issues concerning each party.
