For certain types of crimes a court can sentence an offender to complete Community Payback (which also used to be called Community Service). This means that an offender will have to do a certain amount of hours in unpaid and challenging work. The work they do must ‘pay back’ the community which they’ve harmed.
Community Payback activities are usually very ‘visible’ as it’s important that the community can witnesss offenders at work.
If you are a resident in Torbay and think that you could use the support of the Community Payback scheme on a local project, please contact Devon and Cornwall Probation Service.
Please note that the Community Payback scheme is very popular and there is often a waiting list for local projects.
