Young people from the across Torbay are being invited to attend an alcohol free event on Sunday 19th December at Bohemia nightclub, Torquay.
The event which is open to all young people over the age of 16 has been organised by students from South Devon College along with Torbay Care Trust and Torbay Council as part of the Safer Nights Torbay partnership.
The evening is being supported by local bands including The Iconyx and The Quails and a battle of the DJ’s will be taking place between Heart FM, Producer Matt and South Devon College student radio Vibe FM DJ, Royston. The event will also include a whole host of activities including a guest appearance from Miss Torbay, a beer goggle challenge and alcohol free cocktails for those who wear a Christmas hat.
Siobhan Grady, Assistant Director for Public Health, Torbay Care Trust said: “The fact that this event has been organised by young people for young people, will mean that it will hopefully tick all the boxes for having a good time.
“The event will demonstrate that you can have all the elements of a good night but without having to drink alcohol. It is hoped that the event will raise awareness about the side effects and consequences of alcohol and importance of sensible and safer drinking.”
As part of the Safer Nights Torbay partnership, Torbay Care Trust, Torbay Council, Devon and Cornwall Police, local businesses and voluntary organisations have team up to make Torbay a safer place, particularly over the festive season. As well as the alcohol free event, Safer Nights Torbay have linked up together with pubs and clubs across the town to display safer drinking messages and there will be an extra presence of street pastors and taxi marshals to ensure people get home safely and have quick access to services if they fall ill or become a victim of crime.
The Xmash up Party will start at 8.30pm, at Bohemia Nightclub, Torquay. The event is open to all young people aged 16 and above.
