The firesetting intervention programme run by Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service operates a referral system whereby ANY individual who is worried about a young person’s behaviour with regards to fire safety can fill out a referral form (once parental support has been sought).
Once a referral has been made an advisor will then work with the young person to help them identify the root cause of the problem, attempt to address it and support them with a tailored educational package aimed at breaking the emotional relationship with fire.
The programme has been running since 1995 and has over 33 trained advisors across Torbay. Safer Communities Torbay is working with the Fire Service to raise awareness about the programme and referral process.
